Geocache Description:

A second multi-cache in the grounds of the National Coal Mining Museum for England at Overton, midway between Huddersfield and Wakefield on the A642 in West Yorkshire.

The museum is open from 10.00am to 5.00 pm. Wednesday to Sunday and admission and parking is free although you can donate by buying a parking ticket if you wish. Please see here for more details and any further guidelines and requirements

The museum provides a fascinating insight into the history of coal mining brought to life through interactive exhibitions and displays and you can even take an underground tour all free of charge! There is a restaurant/snack bar and gift shop on site as well.

in 2006 the museum opened a new extension based on the imaginatively restored colliery buildings of adjoining Hope Pit. These now host a fascinating assortment of interactive audio/visual displays and virtual guides about the science of coal mining upon which the clues to find “All Hope is not Lost II” are based.

The coordinates given are for the Museum Car Park (however during the current pandemic please park as directed on arrival)

Way Point 2 below gives you the Museum reception where you should go first and pick up an admission ticket (free) and also an information leaflet with map which you might find useful. Whilst at reception you may want to book an underground tour (free) for later and have a look around the gift shop which is stacked with goodies suitable for caches.

Now find your way up to Hope Pit – it's 300m west of reception. At busy times such as Bank Holidays and School Holidays a pit train runs between Cap House and Hope Pit if you want to catch it. In 2021 tickets costis £2.50
 per person.
