Geocache Description:

Chiltern Church, Sutton

Chiltern Church was built in the early 1930's by Mr AG Taylor, a builder whose company also constructed the houses either side of the church. The current church traces it roots back to a group of Christians who were meeting and using Seaton House School as a base who took over the church on a 20 year lease in April 1938.

They subsequently purchased the property in 1957 for the princely sum of £2,000! A hall was added in 1989 to the back of the church and at the same time central heating was installed. Since then further extensions have taken place, the latest in the mid 90's when the new entrance hall, offices and upstairs rooms were added.

The church, who originally met in the local school and subsequently purchased Chiltern, was a group known as Christian Brethren. Their hallmarks, shared by over 1500 churches, were collective church leadership with no minister, open worship, the use by all of their gifts and abilities, the absolute authority of the Bible and a regular communion service. We openly acknowledge our roots and their positive legacy.

We now describe ourselves as an Independent Evangelical Church; identifying ourselves with others who believe in the authority of the Bible, the uniqueness of Christ and that the Gospel is about changed lives transforming the world.
