LT: Oficialios versmės yra nedideliame Didovo ežere, o hidrografinės – Sydeklio ežere (Telšių rajonas), 14 km į pietus nuo Telšių. Jeigu Minijos ilgis būtų skaičiuojamas nuo šio taško, jis siektų apie 213 km. Tačiau kadangi iš Sydeklio ištekantis upelis vadinasi Mava, tolesnė jo atkarpa tarp Ilgio ir Pluotinalio ežerų – Kliurke, ir tik žemiau Didovo ežero – Minija, tai oficialus Minijos ilgis yra tik 202 km. Teka per Ilgio, Pluotinalio, Didovo ežerus į vakarus žemiau Alkupio žiočių. Įtekėjus Salantui, pasuka į pietus, vingiuoja per Gargždus, Priekulę, įteka į Atmatą (dešiniąją Nemuno deltos atšaką) 3 km nuo jos žiočių. Minijos baseino plotas – 2942,1 km². Didžioji baseino dalis nesimetriška, nes dėl jūros artumo dauguma intakų žemiau Salanto žiočių yra kairieji. Čia iškrenta daugiausia kritulių, palyginus su kitų Lietuvos upių baseinais. Dėl prasto dirvos laidumo ir didelio nuolydžio apie pusė iškritusio vandens nuplukoma.
EN: Minija is a river in western Lithuania and a tributary to Nemunas. It begins from small Lake Didovas, and hidrografically from lake Sydeklis, 14 km south of Telšiai. The rivulet that flows out of Sydeklis here is called Mava, in between Lake Ilgis and Lake Pluotinalis - Kliurkė and only after Lake Didovo it gets the Minija name. It flows through Lakes Ilgis, Pluotinalis, Didovas, and Gargždai, Priekulė towns before reaching the Atmata distributary of the Nemunas delta. In 1873 a channel, called "Vilhelmo kanalas" was built that connected Minija directly with Klaipėda port.
