Geocache Description:

A two stage multi, where you can walk to the final. There is NO CACHING allowed from dusk to dawn in Fairview Cemetery. We had a hard time getting a reading for the final co-ordinates. We used two different GPS s and kept getting different numbers.

At the posted co-ordinates you will find a Plaque on a Commemorating Stone under the oak trees near a couple of picnic tables. Take the first year mentioned, divide it by 1000 and add it to N 43 04.370. Then find the second year mentioned, divide it by 1000 and add it to W 079 03.247 Harry and Eunice Oakes In 1924, Harry and Eunice moved to Niagara Falls. In September of 1930, Mr. Oakes deeded 16 acres of farm land at the corner of Stanley Avenue and Morrison Street for an athletic field. This park was named Oakes Park and it opened for public use in 1931. As a condition for this transfer of parkland, Mr. Oakes insisted that city owned land at Poplar Park remain a playground. Eight oak trees were planted in the centre of the park form an impressive shady row. The trees are historically significant because they were dedicated to the eight schools which existed in Niagara Falls at that time, before the amalgamation of Stamford Township and Niagara Falls. The eight schools were: Glenview (Terrace Ave.), St. Patrick’s (downtown), Maple Street (now Maple Street Park - Maple & Fourth Ave.), Simcoe Street (Simcoe Street), Kitchener Street (near N.F. Memorial Arena), Memorial School (Spring Street), Barker Street (now Battlefield School) and N.F.C.V.I. (now Kingston College). If you visit on a Thursday evening in the summer you may have the CO watching you at stage one. Congratulations to Kayaklady52 & Kirley227 for shared FTF Please BYOP
