Fast jeder weiß hierzulande, was ein Biber ist. Er wird häufig mit abgenagten Baumstämmen und gefällten Bäumen in Zusammenhang gebracht. Der europäische Biber wiegt ausgewachsen meist zwischen 18 und 30kg, und erreicht eine Kopf-Rumpf-Länge von etwa 80-100cm. Der Schwanz ist weitere 30-35cm lang, so dass Biber eine Gesamtlänge von deutlich über einem Meter erreichen!
Pretty much everybody in this area knows about beavers. Most of you have either seen the destructive work of beavers, or at least heart of beavers killing trees. The European beaver normally weighs between 18 and 30 kg, and their crown-rump length is about 80-100cm. The tail is another 30-35cm in length, so that the total length of a beaver typically is clearly above one meter!

Im Gegensatz zum Biber kennen nur wenige ein "Nutria". Selbst nach dem Besuch des Poinger Wildparks ist vielen Besuchern nicht bewusst, dass sie dort nicht etwa Biber, sondern Nutrias gesehen haben. Im Wildpark gibt es nämlich neben dem Picknick-Bereich ein Gehege mit zahlreichen Nutrias. So kann man sich diese Tierchen dort aus der Nähe ansehen. Sie werden typischerweise 8-10kg schwer und erreichen eine Körperlänge von bis zu 65 cm. Mit Schwanz können auch die Nutrias über ein Meter lang werden! Im Gegensatz zum Biber haben sie aber keinen breiten, flachen Schwanz. Der Schwanz der Nutrias ist rund, schuppig und kaum behaart.
In opposite to the beaver only few people here know a "nutria". Even after visiting the Poing Wildpark, many visitors are not aware, that the did not see beavers there, but nutrias! It should be mentioned that close to the picnic area, there's a compound with many nutrias. So you can watch them really closely. Typically, they reach a weight of 8-10 kg, and a length of about 65cm. Including the tail, nutrias can be more than a meter of length! In opposite to the beaver, their tail is not wide and flat. Nutrias have a tail which is round, flaked, and with little hair only.
