Geocache Description:

This is another cache on the Dalgety Bay coast with wonderful views of the river, the bridges and the south side of the Forth.  It is placed partway down the cliff near the coastal path through Hopeward Wood.  There’s a wee unofficial path leading into the trees near the top of some steps, it goes down a steep-ish dirt path then you find the ‘Sofia Neil Coastal Path’, a tribute to a local teenage girl constructed by her brother.

If you’re stood at Sofia’s signpost looking out to the river you should see a white-ish rock on the edge of the cliff around 15 meters to the left.  This is above the cache.

The cache is placed part way down the cliff.  Great care is required here.   You need to be confident scrambling about the rocks and with short climbs.  The cache is easiest to reach from above but can can also be reached with a climb from below when the tide is out.

The cache cannot be seen from above or below.  You can only find it by climbing down (or up) to the correct spot.  It is a camouflaged, medium sized lock & lock container stocked with swappables and a nice FTF prize.

I’ve included quite a few photos with the cache to try to help folks find the correct location.

I have set the terrain at 4 because some amount of climbing is necessary.  Please take great care and only attempt this cache if you’re confident of your ability on the rocks.  Please share your thoughts on whether terrain 4 is the correct choice.

I have set difficulty at 2 because it’s easy enough to find if you’re in the right place.  I’d appreciate cachers feedback on this choice too.

The cache GPS location is directly above the hiding place.  I have included a waypoint exactly at the signpost.  This should allow you to identify any GPS difference.

You can approach either from Lumsdaine Drive where parking is available (56.027103, -3.360044) or from River Walk but there’s less parking available here (56.028815, -3.352656).
