Geocache Description:

This a micro cache at Irving Pertzsch Elementary School.

There is no need to untie anything to remove the cache.

This is my first hide, placed by permission by Principal Todd Antony.

Please do not untie the cache.

Stealth may be required, depending on the time of day. This is on a busy street and on the grounds of a school. If Muggles are present, please abort the mission.

So who is Irving Pertzsch, anyway?

From http://murphylibrary.uwlax.edu/digital/lacrosse/OnalaskaSawmillsSunfish/text/01600156.txt:

Irving H. Pertzsch presided as Mayor of the City of Onalaska for a total of 34 years. An elementary school was named after him in 1950. Other highlights of his career were the three-day celebration dedicating man-made Lake Onalaska in 1936, the city's centennial celebration in 1952, and the dedication of City Hall in 1968. Mr. Pertzsch died in December, 1984.

About the School:
The orginal building had seven classrooms with a kitchen/meeting room. In 1956, six more classrooms, a lunch room, kitchen and separate meeting room were added. In 1967, an additional six classrooms and a gymnasium were built.

In 2006, the citizens of Onalaska voted yes to a remodeling and renovation project which gave Irving Pertzsch expanded classroom space, a new library, music room, art room, cafeteria, and a large group intruction area. Groundbreaking for the project was May 2006. School started in September amid construction. The majority of the project was completed by February 1, 2007. The building had it's dedication on March 4, 2007. Currently, there are 17 classrooms with approximately 330 students in grades 1- 5, along with 36 students in K4 preschool.
In 2014, the citizens of Onalaska voted to remodel the school again, adding space for kindergarten classrooms and a new gymnasium.

For more information about Onalaska, refer to the book "From Sawmills to Sunfish" in the Irving Pertzsch LMC or at the Onalaska Public Library.
