Le specchie sono manufatti megalitici presenti soprattutto nel Salento, realizzati con la sovrapposizione di lastre calcaree. Erano costituite da ripiani concentrici che potevano raggiungere anche i 20 m di altezza. Fra le funzioni assolte dalle specchie: le grandi erano luoghi di avvistamento che, insieme ai paretoni (le mura messapiche), costituivano un sistema difensivo efficace; le piccole avevano funzione sepolcrale, come testimoniato dal rinvenimento di sepolture complete di corredo funerario.
Al giorno d'oggi, le specchie versano in uno stato di degrado causato dall'incuria, dovuta anche alla superstizione popolare. La loro tutela e conservazione è necessaria, dato che si tratta dei più antichi monumenti della civiltà messapica, verosimilmente preesistenti ai Messapi stessi.
La specchia Capece è posta in un denso oliveto a m 199 sul livello del mare, sulla linea di confine dei territori di Ceglie e Francavilla. A pianta approssimativamente subcircolare, è costituita da tre cortine, l’ultima delle quali sostiene un cumulo a forma di cono costituito da pietrame informe.

Specchia is the name given to megalithic artifacts present mainly in the Salento, made with the superposition of limestone slabs. They were made up of concentric shelves that could reach 20 m in height. Among the functions performed by the specchie: the big ones were places for sighting that, along with the "paretoni" (the Messapian walls), constituted an effective defensive system; the small ones had sepulchral functions, as evidenced by the discovery of burials.
Nowadays, the specchie are in a state of decay caused by neglect, due in part to popular superstition. Their protection and conservation is necessary, since they are the most ancient monuments of the Messapian civilization, probably pre-existing the Messapian themselves.
The specchia capece is placed in a dense olive field at 199 m above the sea level, on the border between the territories of Ceglie and Francavilla. It is approximately circular, with three layers, the last of which supports a cone-shaped heap made up by shapeless stone.
