My old dog Archie used to love his walks on here, this cache is dedicated to him and has been placed after obtaining permission from Natural England.
The cache is hidden about 3/4s of the way down Askam pier. Note is is not near the edge so it is safe for small children. The pier is not what you would imagine a pier to look like, it was created by the dumping of slag from the local iron works that closed in 1918.
It used to be popular for sea fishing when you could drive your car to the end of the pier, that is restricted now a gate has been erected at the entrance to stop fly tipping. There is still access either side of the gate posts, either on foot, bicycle or pushchair. Wheelchair access is probably possible if aided. At times there can be a number of dog walking mugglers about. There is a small off-road parking area at the entrance.
You need to bring your own pen to sign the log.
