The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in Maulden stands on the Greensand Ridge to one side of the village main road, commanding imposing views over the village and surrounding Mid-Bedfordshire countryside.
At the south entrance to the church stands the remains of a 13th Centuary cross thought to have marked a pagan Saxon High Place, as the location is to the north of the village with springs nearby, where early Christians preached and converted followers and often churches were built on the sites - a similar situation of the church exsists at Clophill.
The Churchyard also contains the Ailesbury mausoleum, built in 1656 by the Earl of Elgin on top of an older crypt. The mausoleum and crypt are open to the public several times a year.
