Insanity! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

jpick92011: Didn't think this one was going to be long lived after the demolition of the stores. Area is roped off and surveyors on site. More construction in the works.

Thanks to all who visited. Hope you had fun doing the same thing over and over and over...

Geocache Description:

Description:

This was once a great shopping center.  Now it is a ghost town.  The given coordinates will bring you right next door to this once great plaza of nifty shops, food store, gift shop, pub, etc.  Be careful as you drive around as the road surface is pitted and the once welcoming benches are overgrown by out of control shrubbery.

This is a three part cache.  Part one is a puzzle which must be solved to get the coordinates for stage2.
Stage2 will require use of a special tool in order to gain the coordinates for stage3.
Stage3 may drive you insane!

For the puzzle, find a copy of the document that was signed aboard ship on November 11, 1620.   A list of 41 male passengers who signed the document was supplied by William Bradford's nephew Nathaniel Morton in his 1669 New England's Memorial.  The document to be used in this puzzle is the one that was hand written by William Bradford  (1622) from memory because the original document had been lost.

In this document, the ampersand (&) is used continuously for the word “and.”  Please disregard these symbols and do not count them as a word when deciphering the coordinates for stage2.  You will need only the introduction paragraph.  Also, the fifth number in the North coordinates in a zero.  So plug in a zero after the period.  You’ll only need to decipher 6 numbers for the North coordinates, seven for the West.

Print out a copy of the document and number the words.  The code will be the number of the word followed by a letter.  The position of the letter in the word is a number in the coordinates.  Thus, in a sentence, “Four score & seven years ago…”   the code 4a,  2c,  3n,  1u  would equal 3253.  Place the numbers in order in the coordinates.  So N ab cd.0ef   W gh ij.klm.

This document is available on-line.  Just be sure to select the one composed from memory by William Bradford.

The code is:   North:   3m,  6n,  8e,  11e,  0,  14e,  15f
                       West     18g, 19o,  20k, 29e, 33r, 11i, 16u
This gives you the coordinates for stage2.
At stage2 a special tool is required.  See the attributes.  This gives you the coordinates for stage3.
At stage3 look carefully and don’t make this more difficult than need be.  Even though the cache container is large, tweezers may be needed to extract the log from its place.  Find (good luck) and sign the log, give yourself a pat on the back, and then award a favorite point.

Original contents of cache are:
