It is not known when the bridge was built and there are several opinions as to who constructed it. The present bridge may have been built during the construction of the Turnpike Road in the 1800's, replacing an earlier bridge. It has been said General Wade built it, but more probable it was General Stewart of Torrance, Eastkilbride who constructed the Bridge to give easier access to his property at the nearby Crossbasket House. @@@Well Done Scotsbob On Your F.T.F@@@
