Geocache Description:

Sandbanks Provincial Park provides access to numerous examples of coastal sand dunes.

A beach is a geological landform along the shoreline. It usually consists of loose particles which are composed of sand, gravel, and/or pebbles. Beaches form as waves deposit sand and other sediments and wind pushes these sediments inland, creating a beach and accompanying sand dunes. As a result, beaches are known as deposition landmasses.

The process of deposition can be accelerated by storms and other severe weather, causing a beach to grow or shrink depending on which direction the sediment is moving in.

Winds can affect a dune by eroding sand particles from the windward side and depositing them on the leeward side. Gradually this action causes the dune to "migrate" inland. As the dune “migrates”, it accumulates more and more sand causing larger dunes. Sandbanks Provincial Park provides an excellent example of a deposition landmass.

Please E-Mail me the answer to the following question: 1. Using your GPS, measure the approximate distance from the top of the leeward side of the dune to the listed coordinates for this cache?

Even though it is not a logging requirement for this cache, please feel free to post a picture of yourself at the cache coordinates.

Do not post your answer to this question when you log your visit. Any log entry with the answer, even if it is encrypted, will be deleted.

Congratulations to coman123 to be the first to complete the requirements for this earthcache.
