At 1591 m, Victoria Peak is the highest summit in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. Because of its central position in the mountain range, the summit offers spectacular 360-degree views across the surrounding peaks, valleys, and distant Cape landscapes.
On clear days you can see deep into the Boland mountains, and after winter cold fronts the peak is sometimes dusted with snow, making it one of the most memorable hikes in the Western Cape.

Getting There
First make your way to the Jonkershoek Reserve Entry Gate, which is marked as the reference point for this cache listing. Here you will need to obtain a permit before entering the reserve.
From the gate, follow the circular route to the parking coordinates.
From the parking area the hike forms a loop:
-
Up: Kurketrekker Route
-
Down: Panorama Route
You can also hike it in the opposite direction.
Suggested options:
-
Kurketrekker first: Harder climb early, more relaxed descent later.
-
Panorama first: Easier start but a steeper climb at the end.
The Trail
The route is well-marked and passes through rugged fynbos slopes and mountain streams.

In winter, there are several streams along the route where you can refill water bottles (though purification is always recommended).
-
In summer, many of these streams dry up, so bring all the water you need for the day.
Mountain weather can change quickly, even on otherwise calm days. Always bring:
