Here you learned the three R’s - Reading, ‘Riting and ‘Rithmatic. Of course the army boys hid one of their guns behind a bill board, just to keep things camouflaged. This is another recently restored building, but during World War Two we tried to fool the German air force, and any local spies. Bill boards then were just like today, they were used for advertisements. What better way to sell the idea of us winning the war then by hiding a large anti-aircraft gun behind the bill board. If the St. John Drydock had been attacked, the students at this school would have been in danger regardless of the nearby gun.
