Geocache Description:




The Pelican

Back when Faith Bible Camp was established in 1954, it was originally located on the east shore of Elk Island, near the south end of the island where the sand cliffs begin; and not where it is located today about 500 metres west on of here along Olafsson Blvd.

For years, the campers were boated across the lake from this launch site at the end of Highway 504, formerly known as "Olafsson's Pier". The trip over the shallow waters was aboard "The Pelican", a WWII landing craft-like barge that would run up onto the beach and drop its bow (see photo above) to allow passengers to embark and disembark. The trip would take about 30 minutes in calm weather.

This cache is placed near the loading/drop-off spot at Olafsson's Pier.
Today, this spot serves as a boat launch for nearby cottagers and other visitors and is a great launch spot if you're heading out to beautiful Elk Island for the day.


Please do NOT search for this cache at night. The sound of caching voices as well as dancing flashlights will arouse the suspicion of the neighbours.

The cache is outside the restricted part of Victoria Beach, so there is NO vehicle access restriction in effect at any time of the year. You may bring your vehicle. However, please note the parking restrictions in the area.
