Planálticas areas that surround the Valley tifónico consist of limestones of the middle and Upper Jurassic where the karst landscape undeveloped competes with fluvial erosion that carved deep notches in the rim of the Valley tifónico. One of the most interesting is the Valley Roto, where runs at Ribeira da Zambujeira (or Columbeira), tributary of the Real, which crosses the entire Valley tifónico. In the craggy slopes are several caves consisting of galleries related with ancient water sources of water infiltrated in the Highlands neighborhood. These caves have provided archaeological estate and one of them allows you to reach the level of the water in the aquifer.
