The purpose of DHCC was to prevent locals and residents from leaving the UAE for medical treatment and attract inhabitants of neighbouring countries to come to Dubai for their medical needs ("medical tourism").
Behind the plan of this "high quality centre of health" is the idea that similar business should not be be scattered in the city, but concentrated in a specific area. E.g.: Knowledge Village, Media City, Studio City, Media Production Zone, Humanitarian City, Academic City, etc and under construction the "Dubai Design District".
Phase 1 was launched in 2002, covers approximately 0.4 km2 and is still not completely finished. In 2008 DHCC received the Dubai Quality Award from HH Sh. Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in recognition of business excellence.
Phase 2, where GZ is located, was announced in 2008, shall cover 1.8 km2 (!) and is still... - have a look yourself.
Enjoy the quietness of the area and the view of the creek from this unfamiliar angle!
UPDATE: Please don't go at night, security guards are on alert and not friendly!
