ITA: La statua dell'Immacolata Concezione sita al centro di Piazza del Carmine, fu realizzata in marmo da Luigi Guglielmi nel 1882, su un basamento progettato dall'ingegnere Giovanni Onnis, a seguito di un'idea lanciata da Carlo Boyl nel 1856 nel particolare clima religioso della proclamazione del dogma dell'Immacolata Concezione.                                                                Inizialmente, la statua guardava verso la chiesa del Carmine, in viale Trieste. A causa dei bombardamenti del 1943, il forte spostamento d'aria la fece ruotare di 180° sul suo stesso asse, pur non arrecandole alcun danno. Ora la statua è rivolta verso via Sassari e dà le spalle alla chiesa.Â
ENG: The statue of the "Immacolata Concezione" located in the center of Piazza del Carmine, was built by Louis Guglielmi in 1882 and it's a marble statue. The idea of the construction of the statue was recommended by Charles Boyle in 1856 in a particular religious climate of the proclamation of the "Immaculata Concezione" dogma.
Initially, the statue was oriented toward the Carmine church, in Viale Trieste. Because of the bombing in 1943, the strong gust of wind had rotated it of about 180° on its own axis, without any damage. Now the front of the statue is oriented in via Sassari and gives it backs to the church.
