Geocache Description:

A remote cache in a remote area in Cowley County near Winfield Lake

This cache has staying power.  I placed the ammo box container here in 2011 and never created the cache page.  I recently found the co-ordinates and headed out.  It is still there in pristine condition.  Thus, it would be a waste not to send people there.

The parking trailhead is 4 1/4 miles from the 151st street entrance to Winfield City Lake.  This is the entrance closest to Burden Kansas.  A pass costing $4 is required for accessing the lake regardless of entry point.  The road from this entrance to the parking area is rough two wheel drive in dry conditions.  If it were wet and muddy, four wheel drive might be necessary.  The drive itself is worth the trouble as it follows the south shoreline of Winfield Lake and ends in a little used hiking and mountain biking area at the east end of the lake.  Follow faint mowed trails to reach better trails then veer off to find the cache.

The cache is an ammo box with a travel bug which has been under my name for over two years.  My original purpose was to retrieve the travel bug or report it missing.  Now, it is a FIRST TO FIND responsibilty to grab the bug and put it back into circulation.

You may wonder about the name.  This area looks like it could contain various native snankes: copperheads, small rattlesnakes, and possibly timber rattlesnakes are native to this area.  It is unlikely you will encounter any of them here because they tend to be secretive and this is not ideal habitat for any of them.  However, you will larger snakes nearby if you count curved hollow pipes which resemble anacondas nearby.
