Nel 1976, acquistando 6 ettari di vigneto nelle Brunate, uno dei più famosi e importanti cru del Barolo, la Ceretto ha acquisito SS. Madonna delle Grazie, una piccola cappella mai consacrata, costruita nel 1914 per radunare la gente che lavorava nelle vigne circostanti in caso di temporali o violente grandinate.
Col passare del tempo, non più frequentata e, quindi, trascurata, la cappella è andata in rovina. L'incontro tra l'azienda e l'artista inglese David Tremlett, grande appassionato di vino giunto nelle Langhe nel 1997 per allestire una mostra d'arte al Castello di Barolo, ha fatto scattare la scintilla, davanti ai resti abbandonati della chiesetta. All'artista è piaciuta subito l'idea di recuperarla, pensando anche al coinvolgimento dell'amico americano Sol LeWitt. I due artisti si sono divisi equamente i compiti: a Tremlett le decorazioni interne, mentre a LeWitt l'intervento all'esterno.

L'inglese David Tremlett vive a Hertfordshire, nelle vicinanze di Londra, con sua moglie e i 2 figli.
"Quando Ceretto mi chiese cosa doveva fare della cappella, la mia proposta fu di realizzare qualcosa per far venire la gente, per starci bene: un posto dove sedersi, bere un bicchiere di vino, leggere un libro, conversare... magari anche pregare."
When Ceretto purchased 6 hectares of vineyard in 1976 in Brunate, one of Barolo’s three most important and best-known crus, they also acquired a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Grace. Built in 1914 as a shelter for people working in the surrounding vineyards in the event of heavy rain or hailstorms, the chapel had never been consecrated.
With the passing of time, the chapel gradually fell into a state of disrepair due to lack of use. The idea to renovate the building was sparked by an encounter with the English artist, David Tremlett, a keen wine enthusiast who had come to the Langhe in 1997 to set up an art exhibition in the Barolo Castle. The artist was immediately taken by the idea, and suggested involving his American friend, Sol LeWitt, in the project. The work was shared equally between the two artists, with Tremlett decorating the interior, and LeWitt the outside of the chapel.
