Geocache Description:

I'm very excited to hide my first geocache at this location. A big thank you goes out to the folks at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park for allowing me to place the cache here! laugh Being from Appomattox and a banjo player myself, it's only fitting that I hide my first cache at the resting place of the man who redesigned and popularized the old five string. Sweeney is the musician credited for redesigning the banjo as you see it today. For more information on Sweeney, please see the historical marker at the wayside, or visit the Historical Park about a mile west of this area. The park is also where the Civil War ended and our nation was reunited. As for the cache itself, it should not be too hard of a find.wink Please park at the wayside where the Joel Sweeney historical marker is located. The title of the marker is Popularizer of the Banjo. The cache is located about 100 yards off of Route 24. Please use the path that is provided and only search for during daylight hours. HAPPY CACHING AND HAPPY PICKIN'! (if you are a banjo picker.)wink

Additional notes: I have included in the cache a FTF coin and an antique brass banjo keychain travel bug. I would like for it to travel to the nearest bluegrass festival or the nearest music venue. I also included a few other small items to trade out as well.
