I found this wee park when trying to get a good view of MV Windsor Castle when it was first brought back to Leith in August 2014 in order to be converted into a Boutique Floatel (for info: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-28740046). Eventually the boat will be brought over to this side of the dock, and moored next to the Britannia, but currently the best view of it is from the park at the end of the Western Breakwater.
I didn't know this little area existed. But I thought it was worthy if a cache because:
- Its the nearest free view of HMS Brittania (though this is spoiled with various security barriers).
- It has a fab view of the first of Anthony Gormleys Six Times statues - a series of statues in or near the Water of Leith (info: http://www.nationalgalleries.org/aboutus/special-projects/6-times-by-antony-gormley), of which only two are currently still in situ, this one and the one at the front gate of Modern One. The statue here is at the end of the broken down pier and is covered in guano.
- Theres a good info board about the history of Leith Docks nearby.
- Its a great place to sit and watch the docks traffic, see some wildlife and to take a breather.
Remeber to take a pen/pencil.
