Geocache Description:

A quick cache near the site of where Col. Abel D Streight's Union Forces bivouacked the night of 29th of April 1863.

Cache is located in the valley below Day Gap road and Day Gap where Col. Abel Straight's "Mule Brigade" would have passed from the "campground" heading up through the gap.

For an interesting overview of the story of Streights "Lightning Mule Brigade" raid and Nathan Bedford Forrest's pursuit see the Related Web Page above. In the field to the east there is evidence of and old "sunken road" heading south directly up to Day's Gap. Nathan Bedford Forrest's Confeerate Cavalry learning of Streight's presence headed south in search of Streight's force and spent the night in Danville, four miles to the northwest.
