Geocache Description:

In years past, Pelican Road used to be a sleepy, rural backroad. Today the situation is markedly different.

Since the new Schofields Station opened at its present location in October 2011, commuter parking has been a significant problem. With a total of only 230 spaces available in the station's two car parks (110 on the eastern Railway Terrace side and 120 on the western Bridge Street side) parking facilities are woefully inadequate. The eastern Railway Terrace car park fills up well before the morning peak.

The recent commencement of relocation and widening works of Schofields Road near the intersection of Railway Terrace has further compounded the problem, with commuters forced to park even further from the station. During the week it is not uncommon for parked vehicles to line each side of Pelican Road from the turning circle adjacent Railway Terrace right to where this cache has been placed, a distance of approximately 300 metres.

Also noteworthy is a new residential development containing 406 "affordable" dwellings in five separate five-storey residential buildings planned on the northern side of Pelican Road. It is anticipated that construction will commence in late 2014.

With unprecedented demand for residential land around Schofields and unrelenting growth of nearby commercial developments continuing, the commuter parking situation is not likely to improve in the near future.

You are looking for a small black bison tube containing log only. Bring your own writing implement. Stealth may be required during the morning and evening peaks as other commuters park or return to their cars.
