Geocache Description:

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).

This cache is a small tube

Caldecote is a village in Cambridgeshire, in the district of South Cambridgeshire. It is located south of the A428, approximately six miles west of Cambridge and three miles east of Cambourne. Nearby settlements are Hardwick and Toft to the east, Bourn to the west, Childerley to the north and Kingston to the south. Bourn Airfield lies on the north-west edge of the village.

The older part of the village lies to the south, just off the B1046 road and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The parish church, St. Michael and All Angels, parts of which date to the 14th Century, is located in this part of the village. Bourn Brook and the route of the former Oxford and Cambridge Railway runs to the south of the village.

Highfields Caldecote is a newer development in the north of the village. Further development in Highfields since 2000 has led to the construction of a village shop, a recreation ground and more. The A428 was converted to a dual carriageway and was opened on 24 May 2007 allowing easy access.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let SmokeyPugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
