The stadium was built on a 15-acre tract adjoining the Hanover Fair Grounds and bordered by those Fair Grounds, McAllister Street, Wirt Avenue and John Street in Penn Township. The land belonging to the Hanover Shoe Farms was presented to the school district by H.D. Sheppard, C.N. Myers and L.B. Sheppard on Nov. 25, 1947, to be used for the development of an athletic field and the promotion of physical activity.
The work would start in May 1948, as the new stadium took shape with its 4,000-seat grandstand, the first set of stadium lights in the area, and a cinder track around the green field. By September 1949, Eichelberger Senior High School was ready to host its first season at the new stadium, taking on Biglerville.
