Geocache Description:

This is a reincarnated cache at an archived location that is simply too good to not have a cache.

It was one of the very early caches that I found back in 2011. Thank you to the previous CO "Woppy" for the idea of placing a cache here and for the History of the cache. I decided that given the location it should have the original name. I have also included a small part of the previous History which is required to do the cache justice. This is muggle central at times, so a lot of stealth required hence the increase in difficulty. Although the terrain is quite good and can be reached by a wheelchair the cache itself may still not be reachable without assistance. The story goes that Local brews 'inspired' the local youths to 'celebrate' one of Wellington’s victories in the Napoleonic Wars in the only way the sweet local lads knew how... by torching the Guildhall. This resulted in the upper floor and tower having to be rebuilt, (the opportunity being taken to extend it by two bays to the north). The bulk of it survived intact, however, so we've managed to use this building for civil matters for over 400 years. Now to the point... GZ is hidden by this illustrious hall, at something that was very important prior to 1864. That was the year when piped water became available to the town. The first one here was provided by a local benefactor in 1635, but this one arrived in 1855. In a brewery town such as this, as you might perhaps expect, the story goes that the pump freely flows with beer for those who venture here at midnight on Christmas Eve! So... Christmas Cheers to all !!
