The Sailor's Knot Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

-allenite-: As there's been no response from the cache owner to my previous note, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that geocaches archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

As the story goes around the turn of the 19th century an art form arose from the ranks of the deep water sailors.  That art form was called "knotting".  One knot that arose during this time period was the "true lovers knot".  It was a simple and clear knot made of two overhand knots linked together much like true lovers are in their hearts.  A deep water sailor would tie the knot loosely and send it to his intended back home.  Upon receiving it the woman would 1. Untie the knot meaning the sailor should not show his face the next time he was in port, 2. She could send it back, leaving it loose meaning the sailor would be welcomed home but better be on his best behavior or 3. She could tighten the knot before returning it meaning the sailor should hurry his way to the homestead.

This cache was placed in celebration of our wedding held just steps away on the shores of Lake Huron on September 13 (same day as the SAG Fall Fest...what were we thinking??).  Just as we celebrated our engagement with a cache so it is with our wedding.  We encourage all who seek this cache to reflect on their own true love (hopefully you geocache together!).

A special first to find prize awaits the first seeker for the Straits Area Geocachers Fall Fest 2014.
