Geocache Description:

 

 

At this location, you will be looking out over the Orleans Town Lake.  Isn't much to look at anymore, but still an interesting location as far as interesting locations go in Orleans.   I've heard many stories of times when the Town Lake was a popular fishing hole for local residents.  I myself can remember when the water level was controlled by a mechanical spillway and the lake usually had water in it except during droughts.

Not too many years ago, the town had the mechanical spillway removed and a static, low level spillway was installed.  Now the water level stays low unless we have a lot of rain.   During the spring, it isn't uncommon to see the lake full and the water flowing over the secondary spillway right under your feet.  It is my understanding that this lake was built as a flood control lake and most springs you can see it doing just that.

Cache is a magnetic key holder hidden in an obvious spot.  Should be an easy grab and go.  BYOP.
