The Area
Once called Harpeth, then Poplar Grove, this area was settled around 1800. The town's name was changed to College Grove in 1860 when the post office was established and the name had to be changed because another Poplar Grove already existed. The name was changed in honor of a boys school and a female seminary in the community. The area and it's buildings suffered heavy damages while occupied during the Civil War, though the historic churches, including the Methodist Church which can be viewed across the street from the cache location, survived with minimal damage. The church was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1988 and has appeared in several music videos by such artists as Waylon Jennings, Alabama and Madonna. It was also filmed for a segment in the movie "The Green Mile," staring Tom Hanks.
The Jack Trail GeoTour
The Jack Trail GeoTour is a series of geocaches along the backroads and small towns of Middle Tennessee. There is no fixed itinerary, like on a traditional trail, but rather a series of points of interest in a self-guided, goal-oriented plan. We have created a special passport, which you can download here, which lets you track your progress as you hunt specially placed geocaches along the tour. This passport will help you collect “code words” to qualify for special geocoins for completion of the GeoTour.
