Fernão de Magalhães (1480-1521) foi um navegador português , que se notabilizou por ter organizado a primeira viagem de circum-navegação ao globo de 1519 até 1522. A expedição de Magalhães de 1519-1522 foi a primeira expedição a navegar do Oceano Atlântico ao Oceano Pacífico (nome atribuído pelo próprio, assim como ao Estreito de Magalhães), e a primeira a atravessar o Oceano Pacífico. Embora a expedição tenha completado a primeira circum-navegação ao globo, Magalhães não completou a viagem inteira pois morreu na Batalha de Mactan, nas Filipinas.
Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521) was a Portuguese explorer that is known for having organized the first circumnavigation voyage of the Earth, between 1519 and 1522. Magellan's expedition of 1519–1522 became the first expedition to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific Ocean (then named "peaceful sea" by Magellan; the passage being made via the Strait of Magellan), and the first to cross the Pacific. His expedition completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Magellan did not complete the entire voyage, as he was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines.
