Cambridge County Courthouse

This year brings Themed Weekends to Dickens Victorian Village! On November 8th you will be able to meet Queen Victoria herself and hopefully even get knighted in the courthouse! More details to come!

Guernsey County celebrates Christmas with a stunning sound & light presentation at the County Courthouse and life-sized Charles Dickens character displays scattered about historic downtown Cambridge. Come join us to admire the beauty, celebrate the season, swap cache talk with new and old friends, and discover the beauty of Christmas, Cambridge style, along the way.  It is the 8th season for the character displays and the courthouse lightshow has been displayed annually since 2008; each year they have both been growing and improving. This year, in addition to the ever-popular carriage rides, Cambridge has added a shuttle trolley making stops at 8 locations around town that highlight something special.

Stop by the tables at GZ for coffee, cookies, cocoa, and cache talk on the porch of US Bank next to the County Courthouse. We will have boxes for discovering and moving travelers and lots of time to enjoy each other's company.

The event cache and all of the Dickens displays are 100% wheelchair and stroller accessible.  There is free on-street parking available and 4 parking lots nearby.  If you choose to walk the route I have laid out, you can expect a walk of about 1 mile on flat sidewalks.  The light show at the courthouse begins each evening at 5:30, so if you arrive between 3-4 you will have time to visit the Dickens Village displays and grab a bite to eat before the light show begins.

In honor of our 5th year with this event, we are going to do something a bit different. Instead of logging temps for each display, I have ordered laser-engraved wooden nickels to be given to all participants who successfully complete a scavenger hunt puzzle along the route. While you are visiting the displays, you will be looking for clues and objects to claim your commerative wooden nickel. (Pictures coming as soon as possible)

The Dickens Victorian Village is a unique walking tour experience along historic Wheeling Avenue in downtown Cambridge, Ohio.

The classic Dickens-era scenes -- about 95 in all! -- are comprised of about 185 life-like figures and are placed at each of the 40 historic lampposts and benches between 6th and 11th Streets on Wheeling Avenue, as well as in first and second-story windows throughout Cambridge's downtown. In addition, Dickens figures "stroll" around the Courthouse lawn, appear at the Byesville Scenic Railway depot, and even skate around at downtown's main intersection. The scenes enhance Cambridge's outstanding 1800s architecture, eclectic shopping, charming streetscape, and eateries.

We are going to supply some coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies for participants, so bring family and friends out for a nice evening to see some local beauty and share some cheer!! I have attached a YouTube video clip from a previous year to give you an idea of what we'll be enjoying...  :-)
