Through paddlers on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail heading to Maine must paddle or portage upstream on the Upper Ammonoosuc from the Connecticut River and take out near this spot, then carry their boat and gear over Muzzey Hill to the Androscoggin River in Dummer. Then they paddle or portage upstream to Umbagog. It is hard work!
