Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located on "The Rock" an island in beautiful Georgian Bay! Since this cache is located on an island, you will need a boat, canoe, kayak, or paddle board to reach the cache. There are plenty of spaces around the island for you to "go ashore". Once on the island you will need to navigate the shoal to reach the cache. BEARS AND RATTLE SNAKES HAVE BEEN SPOTTED IN THIS AREA OF THE COUNTRY, SO BE CAREFUL! Bring a walking stick to poke around as you look for the cache.
Area cottage owners have for years used this island for family picnics and you would have a beautiful view if you would stay on the island for your own picnic after finding the cache.
The Ballad of “Kissin Cousins” was written by a local islander and gives you a little information about a cottage built on an island near the cache. The families have been coming to their island for 50+ years and many others have enjoyed the beauty of the area due to their hospitality. We are fortunate to be included in the ones who have enjoyed the wonders of God found in the Georgian Bay.
THE BALLAD OF "KISSIN COUSINS" by Larry F. Oldfield
There was a time in this fair land when a great big rock was bought
Up north on the very edge of Georgian Bay
Where the waters clean, the air is fresh and the midnight stars shine bright
And living there is a delight.
In 64 there left two men from the state of Ohio
Who traveled north into Ontario.
They came to the stone to build them a home where their families could have fun
And they began in the early morning sun.
Now the one big man from Ohio land was the one they called Big Jim
And the railroad man from Indiana land was Mort.
They worked hard as they could while the weather was good
And at last their cabin stood and it was strong to last them long.
Now three men paid and two men laid the groundwork for this place
And all the relatives who were as one
They loved that rock so they found a spot and painted on a name
And the Kissin Cousins it became.
Now cousin Jack who’s far away and cousins Jim and Mort
And their families have a happy summer time
Each year in the sun they combine as one
And the Kissin Cousins play in Canada far away.
There was a time in this fair land when a great big rock was bought
Up north on the very edge of Georgian Bay
Where the waters clean, the air is fresh and the midnight stars are bright
And living is a delight.
