Geocache Description:

This cache may take a little looking but shouldn't be too hard. It is in a nice little drive through park known as Cofachique Park. This park is situated near one of the trailheads on the Prairie Spirit Trail and a popular place for locals to sit and eat lunch. Watch for muggles! You are looking for a brown spray painted magnetic key holder with a log only. BYOP. It is located on the west side of the artillery piece, no climbing needed.

The town of Cofachique was formed in 1855 by a group of men from Fort Scott. This town was the first and only town in Allen County until  Humboldt was formed in 1857. The unique name is derived from an Osage Chief, who was named Cofachique. Chief Cofachique was known to be very helpful to new settlers. There was a heavy trade with neighboring tribes of Indians, and for awhile, the town had a bright future. Until the Summer of 1857 there was no post office nearer than Fort Scott until one was established at Cofachique. Cofachique soon began to fail because of the bigger surrounding towns that were forming. This park is only named in remembrance of the town of Cofachique. The actual town was located approximately 2 miles south of Iola near the Neosho River and is now covered by farmland. No remnants can be found there.
