When drive on M3 east, you see the look-out towering on top of the 310m high Somlyó hill. You can see far into the country side from top of the tower, in direction of Budapest and into the East. Unfortunately the tower is not publicly accessible. Someone has removed the window grate and it's no problem to get in. But considering the general state of repair of the tower, it's not recommened to walk up the stairs. The look-out has been designed by the famous architect Imre Makovecz. Planning began in 1997, in 2002 the tower was opened.
Imre Makovecz (20.11.1935 - 27.09.2011) was an important representative of Hungarian organic architecture. Among others, he designed the funeral chapel on the Farkasrét cemetary in Budapest, the cultural centers of Sárospatak and Szigetvár, the "onion house" in Makó and also the Hungarian pavillion for the World Expo in Seville.
The third anniversary of Makovecz' death approaches. A good opportunity to have a closer look at one of his less known works and to find a cache!
The cache is well camouflaged and has to be searched on the ground. From the look-out, you walk downhill on the path to the Northeast, past the fallen tree, and at the next possibility you turn left onto a smaller path.

Wenn man auf der M3 nach Osten fährt, sieht man den Aussichtsturm oberhalb von Mogyoród auf dem 310m hohen Somlyó-Berg thronen. Man kann vom Turm aus weit ins Land hinausschauen, in Richtung Budapest und in Richtung Osten. Leider ist der Turm nicht öffentlich zugänglich. Zwar hat jemand ein der Fenstergitter entfernt, so dass man problemlos einsteigen kann. Aufgrund des baulichen Zustands ist jedoch dringend davon abzuraten, die Treppe hochzugehen. Der Turm wurde vom berühmten Architekten Imre Makovecz entworfen. Die Planungen begannen 1997, im Jahr 2002 wurde der Turm fertiggestellt.
Imre Makovecz (20.11.1935 - 27.09.2011) war ein wichtiger Vertreter der ungarischen organischen Architektur. Er entwarf unter anderem die Aufbahrungshalle auf dem Budapester Friedhof Farkasrét, das Gemeindehaus von Sárospatak, das Kulturzentrum von Szigetvár, das "Zwiebelhaus" in Makó und außerdem den ungarischen Pavillon für die Weltausstellung von Sevilla.
Nun jährt sich Makovecz' Todestag zum dritten Mal. Eine gute Gelegenheit, eines seiner weniger bekannten Werke in Augenschein zu nehmen und einen Cache zu heben!
Der Cache ist gut getarnt und auf Bodenhöhe zu suchen. Vom Turm aus geht man auf dem Pfad nach Nordosten am gestürzten Baum vorbei bergab und bei nächster Gelegenheit links auf einen schmalen Pfad.
