Geocache Description:

This is the first of a a little series I plan to put out around and near Madison Ave.

I'm hoping to bring a few more caches to Midtown, Manhattan, the center of the world. There seem to be far too few due to the high muggle factor, but they attract visitors and cachers from all over the world.

For those visiting from out of town or overseas, and for you locals or transplants who need a refresher, Madison Avenue is a north-south avenue in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, United States, that carries northbound one-way traffic. It runs from Madison Square (at 23rd Street) to the Madison Avenue Bridge at 138th Street. In doing so, it passes through Midtown, the Upper East Side (including Carnegie Hill), Spanish Harlem, and Harlem. It is named after and arises from Madison Square, which is itself named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States. Since the 1920s, the street's name has been metonymous with the American advertising industry.

Among various depictions in popular culture, the portion of the advertising industry which centers on Madison Avenue serves as a backdrop for the AMC television drama Mad Men, which focuses on industry activities during the 1960s.

In recent decades, many agencies have left Madison Avenue, with some moving further downtown and others moving west. Today, only a few agencies are still located in the old business cluster on Madison Avenue. However, the term is still used to describe the agency business as a whole and large, New York–based agencies in particular.

This cache will take you to The Morgan Library & Museum – formerly the Pierpont Morgan Library – is a museum and research library located at 225 Madison Avenue at East 36th Street in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan,New York City. It was founded to house the private library of J. P. Morgan in 1906, which included, besides the manuscripts and printed books, some of them in rare bindings, his collection of prints and drawings. The library was designed by Charles McKim of the firm of McKim, Mead and White, and cost $1.2 million. It was made a public institution in 1924 by his son, John Pierpont Morgan, Jr., in accordance with his father's will. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 and was declared a National Historic Landmark later that same year.

I work a few blocks away (I work in technology though, not the ad industry) so I am able to visit and maintain the cache quite often. Maybe I will see you and come muggle you. Cache is a nano, log only, BYOP, it can be accessed from the sidewalk on 36th st between Madison and Park Ave. You will not need to go on the steps, grass or any terrace of the library. GPS may not do you much good here, especially on mobile devices, The posted coords are as close as I could get, but as usual in Manhattan, your GPS may still go "mad" around here. The hint plus a bit of Geosense will lead the way. Please be careful of muggles, and replace as found.

Since this is Midtown the logsheet tends to fill up very quickly. Please try to keep the signatures as small as possible. I do my best to change it out often when it gets full, however if there is no way to STL, please take a pic of the container but do not post any spoiler images of the cache or of the hiding spot. Also for another little known great spot, go visit my nearby hide The Kneeling Fireman - http://coord.info/GC4XVAC.

Congrats to ruthny and tzutzanu on the FTF!
