Muskox have curved horns. The muskox and the caribou are the only two hoofed mammals of the Arctic that survived the end of the Pleistocene era 10,000 years ago. In the 1950s, the Banks Island muskox population fell to only 1,000 animals. They now number over 100,000. Muskox are one of the most powerful land animals in the world.  Muskox eats grasses, roots, reeds, sedges and other plants. They are herbivores. They usually have one baby. The muskox lives in northern Canada, Greenland and Alaska. The adult musk ox usually weighs a minimum of 180 kg. (400 lbs.) Predators of the muskox are wolves and sometimes polar bears. Muskox have fur like sheep wool. People that live in the north have many wool scarves made of muskox.
