Storm: The Polar Bear

Storm went on display in the Assiniboine Park Zoo on November, 28th 2013.  He was an approximately 200 pound bear when they received him. Polar bears are the largest land carnivores. Males are two to three times bigger than females. Males weigh 350 to 650 kg. They are around 2.5 to 3m long. The largest recorded polar bear is 1002 kg and 3.7 m long. Male polar bears are called boars.

Polar bears eat seals. They sometimes have to break through the hard ice surface to get the seal.

Polar bears aren't hibernators; instead they enter a state called torpor. Wild polar bears will enter this state in the summer.
