'I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round'
The area around assaroe abbey is steeped in early Christian history. The abbey was founded by Cistercian monks in the 12th century outside what is now Ballyshannon. Construction in the area included the abbey and accommodation, guest houses, a mill and what is thought to be the oldest stone bridge in Ireland. The water wheels have been fully renovated and are once again working. Along the riverbank from the abbey is Catseby's cave, a secluded and very tranquil mass rock from penal times. Southwest of the abbey and just a few minutes walk is Saint Patrick's holy well site that hosts a five stone turas with votive tree.
There is a good bit of parking onsite and if you visit on a Sunday between March and November there is a fabulous teashop.
The area around the abbey can be busy so the cache is placed at the nearby holy well, but NOT within its grounds.
The cache is a blue metallic micro. Please replace carefully
