San Carlos Post Office History Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NavySparksandtheMrs: After having this cache and a previous cache very nearby muggled several times I have given up. Since this was muggled last I have been trying to come up with another type of hide. I just have not found something that I think will work in such a high Muggle area. Thus I have decided to archive this one.

Geocache Description:

This cache outlines the history of post offices in San Carlos, CA

The first post office in San Carlos was housed at the train depot in 1895. That building is still standing on El Camino Real at San Carlos Avenue.  In 1926 the post office moved from there to 714 El Camino Real with newly appointed postmistress 20 year old Jesse Davis. As a requirement for the job, Mrs. Davis had to provide a post office building. Using money she and her husband had saved, she had a small post office built in front of her home (Another source names the post mistress as Mary Kay Davis)  That building back then at 714 El Camino Real no longer exists and Carlos Lighting (The Lighthouse) is now located at that location. A new building at 1150 San Carlos Avenue was the home of the post office from 1936 through 1948. I remember very well going there often when I was a young boy. The building at 1150 San Carlos Avenue still stands today, housing a restaurant and retail shops. The post office was moved again to the 1300 block of San Carlos Avenue.

It made its final more to its current location at 809 Laurel Street in 1958.

PLEASE NOTE ... the new container did not want to screw together easily so I have added a small amount of Vaseline to the threads. So if you feel something that is what it is and is perfectly safe.
