EN: Potomje is a village on Pelješac peninsula famous for its wines. Besides lots of vineyards in the plains near the village itself, there were some quality vines on the other side of the mountain, at locality called Dingač. It was a prime terrain, very steep land inclined towards the sea, and with a perfect angle towards the sun. For years, the only way to cultivate those terrains was to carry all the tools on mules and donkeys across the hill, and also, the final product (not only grapes, but also olives, and other agricultural products that were growing there) back to Potomje.
For easier access to the Dingač area, the local wine producers excavated a 400 m long tunnel, entirely by hands, in 1976. It is wide enough for the cars to pass through, and the passage is quite an experience. If you’re coming from Potomje side, you will be stunned by the view that breaks as soon as you get to the other side. You can see fantastic panorama of Mljet and Korčula, with all the small islands.
