Wetlands are one of the most undervalued ecosystems but provide a range of vital services. They provide food, they filter water and offer a unique habitat for many different species.
Wetlands are important natural areas that are found all over the world, except in Antarctica. Wetlands help to provide food and homes to fish, amphibians, shellfish, insects, birds, and other animals. They also clean our water and provide flood protection for our communities. These lands have soils that are often saturated with water permanently or part of the year. Most importantly they have plants and animals that can withstand this flooding. Wetlands are important transition areas between the water and higher land.
