Mail For Ainsbury Letterbox Hybrid
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Letterbox Hybrid caches pay homage to the game of Letterboxing, which was started in southwestern England over 150 years ago is considered to be the forerunner to Geocaching.
In Letterboxing, the hider would leave clues for future finders to locate the container, which could be simple or cryptic. A certain amount of puzzle solving is part of the fun.
As Letterboxing developed, the feature of a stamp was included. The container would hold a stamp, which was not for trade but to remain in the container.
Letterboxers use it to stamp their own book which they carry, and use their own stamp to stamp the log in the container.
Geocachers without a stamp can just sign the log as they normally would with any other cache.
** Please Note ** Getting to this cache involves driving approximately 9km (one way)on dirt roads from the starting co-ordinates Like most back roads in this area, they can get rather slippery, with a good chance of getting bogged after a decent rain. Always be on the lookout for farm machinery, especially around harvest time.
OK Lets get started :-
1. Arriving at the given co-ordinates , you should be at a T intersection, with a signpost pointing towards a dirt road.
2. Travel down the dirt road until until you reach the offset crossroads (5.4km approx.) There is a small monument on your right. (Five Mile Plain school site ).
3. Using this monument you will get the co-ordinates for GZ
Coordinates are S 35 24. (the year the school opened minus 1382)
E 143 28. (the year the school closed minus 1367)
4. Follow the road opposite the monument in a southerly direction to start with, for 3.3km (approx) until you reach another set of crossroads. Take care along this section as there are two right angle bends, the first is to your right and has a track off to the left, and the second is to the left
5. At the next crossroads turn right. You have reached your destination.
6. Puzzle time again!!! Letterbox is locked, now where can the combination be???
Cache contains a logbook, pen, pencil, stamp and ink pad. Also a few swaps
** Please do not take the stamp or ink pad**
