4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

A spot with a little ancient Australian history where our original inhabitants left their mark - literally.

Gumbooya Reserve in Allambie Heights has a very fine collection of aboriginal rock engravings including whales, figures and many fish. This very large rock platform is surrounded by houses and a main road runs alongside.

There are approximately 4,500 Aboriginal sites registered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service throughout metropolitan Sydney. The majority of coastal Sydney sites have been dated to at least 2,500 years. Unfortunately there are no initiated descendants of the Guringai Tribe left to tell us the significance of the engravings or to re-engrave them in a culturally approriate way.

There is a nice view across to the northern beaches and on New Year's Eve the Sydney fireworks display can be seen on the horizen.

You do not have to enter the enclosure where the main engravings are located  but sitting on the barricade may help. Please ensure that you do not interfere with any of the engravings in any manner.

The cache is a small nano with room only for the log. Please bring your own pencil or pen. Enjoy!
