Here's some history on Lincoln County Ambulance District (also known as L.C.A.D.). It was formed on February 20th, 1974 and was operated by local funeral homes as a BLS (Basic Life Support) district. Then in 1982, L.C.A.D. evolved into an ALS (Advanced Life Support) district and is still an ALS district to this day. L.C.A.D. Base #3 was build in 1982,later upgraded to the present base, located in Elsberry on Hwy. B. The base currently houses one 911 ambulances Medic 3.
As of 2014 the District employs 33 Full-time Paramedics/EMT's that staff 5, 911 ambulances in 4 bases which includes one Supervisor per shift. The District also has a Chief of Operations, a Chief Medical Officer, an Office and Benefits Administrator and an Administrative Secretary. L.C.A.D. cover approximately 630 square miles and average 6,500 calls per year.
