Please note that the sand and mudflats at the edge of the Clyde form part of the Inner Clyde Special Protection Area, which has been designated to protect the internationally important population of migratory birds which feeds and roosts there during the winter months. I would not have believed it possible to walk out to these towers, that was until I spoke with a friend who had done just that. He inspired me to have the Towers event walk back in September 2014. The event was very well attended and inspired other cachers to place caches on a couple of the towers. I then thought how nice it would be to have a line of caches up the middle of the Clyde.
Towers 4 and 5 are modern fibreglass mushrooms that sit on top of the original stone platforms of the original towers, probably similar to Nos 1 and 3. They have been removed at some point probably as they had fallen into a state of disrepair.
To access to the towers. Please refer to waypoints in the Tower 1 cache. Park at the coords beside the wall of the golf club and follow the track downhill to the crossroads by the house. Follow the River Clyde signpost, go through the small gate. When you reach the end of the path turn left and follow the rough path that runs along the line of the fields until you pick up the causeway which is opposite Tower 2.
The towers are only available approx one hour either side of low tide. Also worth noting that the low tide height must be less than 1.30m to enable access to the Towers. Towers 1, 2, 3 and 7 are only accessible at very low tides and wading will be required to get to these
