Take a scenic hike into the Capital Springs State Park and Wildlife Area to discover this cache. Be aware that it's not an island and there aren't any hogs--extra credit points if you can track down why it's called Hog Island. The cache is surrounded by wet marshy areas, but if you take the right route, you can get there with dry feet---if you go to far east, you'll fall in the lake. It's also a short paddle from the Lake Farm boat launch or hike when the water is frozen.
The nearest parking is the lot across from the Lake Farms Boat launch (don't park in the boat launch area unless you have a permit) The so-called island is really a peninsula that juts out slightly into Lake Waubesa and is bounded by McConnel bay on the south side. The cache is a well-hidden container that is painted in camo. Some parts of the area are thick with brush but there is now a path with some improvised board walk, that makes it easy when the water levels are low. In wet seasons and in some marshy areas the water is knee deep so you may not want to wade. There is lots of wildlife in the area and deer bones in some areas so it's an interesting hike. Watch for muggle fishermen near shore when the fish are biting. The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to the Wisconsin DNR.
