John Guy's Free School
This School on the corner of Wellington St / High Street was a free school built with money left by a man called John Guy .He had worked all his life as a herdsman on the local Adair Estate and wanted to use his money for something useful.

Apparently he could neither read or write he was supposed to have heard of a new hospital opening in London called Guy's and decided to build a free school on this site.
The School was demolished many years ago and was located near the enterance to the Tower Centre. I remember our car being parked here on open ground and doing our shopping in Gilmore's Grocers across the street.
